About the team

Welcome to the Haslemere Rugby Under 12s, school year 7, from complete beginners to seasoned experts, all are welcome. Our friendly coaches will help you learn that sport is fun, you can achieve more working as a team and will develop your personal skills and potential as a player.

Our first session will be Sunday, 3rd September 2023. We meet every Sunday morning at the Club grounds between 10.00am – 12.00pm although please always check the fixtures section to find out where we will be. We are happy for you to come along and just try out without commitment for the first couple of sessions. There is no requirement to go and spend a fortune on kit - all you need is a gum shield and some boots and you can give it a go, although don’t forget to dress appropriately for the weather; hats, gloves, waterproofs and layers if it is cold and wet, and bring a drink and snack.

This season we continue with contact rugby. This will be conducted with special attention to safety and we will be structuring our sessions to teach the children how to tackle, ruck, maul and scrummage as well as kicking which is added to the game. We will also rotate players so they won't find themselves constantly in the scrum. This year we will be going up to a 5-man scrum (still uncontested) and are allowed to fend-off below the armpits.

We play competitive matches, tournaments, and friendly away fixtures as well as home training.

When you bring your child along we ask that you remain to watch them or by all means offer to help with some of the drills if you are able. Ensure that they have warm and waterproof kit as well as a drink and a snack.

We are a friendly Club and provide encouragement and fun sessions so to ensure that children are happy and enjoy the thrill of competitive running rugby.

We take great care of your children and all coaches are DBS cleared. Insurance is provided through the Club as long as Club membership is completed. Parents are encouraged to volunteer to help in any way which they can, coaching, admin, and in particular first aid – if you are qualified please let us know.

You can see the fixtures list by clicking on the Fixtures & Results tab above. We would appreciate if you could be there at 9.50am as warm up and training will start at 10.00 am and finish at 12pm.

Children turning 12 (school year 7) are welcome to join us at any time and will be made very welcome We are always very keen to see new faces joining the Club throughout the season, so please tell your friends.

We aim to play as many players as possible in matches, safety providing, and switch positions so they get to experience different positions.

We Uphold the RFU "Spirit of the Game" and its laws. “It is not the winning but the spirit of fair play, enjoyment and safety that is paramount.” And the RFU core values of: teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.

Kit
The club will provide new shirts to all members for the games but you can train in your own shirt.

Other kit will be available online in our kit shop this season. All players should have well fitting boots, a gum shield is mandatory. Shorts, team shirt for matches and socks, under layer and tracksuit trousers for cold days. Scrum caps and rugby gloves and shoulder pads are optional but recommended. On cold days, please dress your child appropriately.

Volunteering
If you are not coaching or doing first aid please offer to help when asked with the catering duty at the clubhouse or parking duty. This is only a few weekends a season and your help is much appreciated.

If you have any questions please do get in touch.
