Greetings from the Haslemere Rugby Under 11s, school year 6! Our group is about mud and fresh air, fun, and camaraderie, respect and fair play. We have a tremendous group of players and parents waiting to welcome you. From complete beginners to seasoned experts, all are welcome. Our friendly coaches will help you learn that sport is fun, you can achieve more working as a team and will develop your personal skills and potential as a player.
The new season starts on Sunday 5th September 2021 - we meet every Sunday morning at the Club grounds between 10.00am – 12.00pm although please always check the fixtures section to find out where we will be. We are happy for you to come along and just try out without commitment for the first couple of sessions. There is no requirement to go and spend a fortune on kit - all you need is a gum shield and some boots and you can give it a go, although don’t forget to dress appropriately for the weather; hats, gloves, waterproofs and layers if it is cold and wet, and bring a drink and snack.
Our role as a coaching team is to create a safe environment for kids to experience rugby and develop as players and people. We run a season long program of training, interclub matches, and festivals. The focus is on players having fun and enjoying themselves. If we win along the way it’s a bonus.
This season we continue with contact rugby. Hookers are now allowed to strike for the ball (but still no pushing) and players are allowed to kick the ball (no fly hacking). Contact will be conducted with special attention to safety and we will be structuring our sessions to teach the children how to tackle, ruck, maul, and scrummage. We will also rotate players so they won't find themselves constantly in the scrum.
All coaches are DBS cleared. Insurance is provided through the Club as long as Club membership is completed. Parents are encouraged to volunteer to help in any way which they can, coaching, admin, and in particular first aid – if you are qualified please let us know.
Advance notice isn't required for you to turn up - please just come along.
